The best way to store a sleeping bag between camping trips

When you are camping your sleeping bag is an essential place of refuge. Whatever the weather outside your sleeping bag will be warm and inviting and a place of comfort you can retreat to every night. But only if it is in good condition and you look after it. Quality storage of a sleeping bag is essential for extending its lifespan and getting good value for money, but also for ensuring the sleeping bag maintains its softness and insulating properties to allow you a warm and comfortable sleep when you are under the stars at night out in the wild.sleeping bag protection

Sleeping bag protection is an essential solution to this problem, for maintenance, organisation and transportation. Protecting your sleeping bag with a protective bag means:

-          You can relax and enjoy your camping holiday knowing you have got the basics right.

-          You are prepared for challenging weather.

-          You get good value for money from your sleeping bag.

-          You have a tidy and organised campsite during the day.

-          You can easily transport your sleeping bag.

How to protect your sleeping bag in storage

Using suitable protection for your sleeping bag is important between camping trips and also during the trip itself. Our sleeping bag protection at Bags and Covers Direct is made from strong, waterproof polyester fabric and comes in a range of sizes. This will provide suitable protection for your sleeping bag during the day whilst on the trip, but there are other factors to consider for longer term storage between trips also:

-        Air out your sleeping bag - As soon as you get home you should remove your sleeping bag from its packaging and dry it, ideally outside on a washing line. This removes trapped moisture and condensation and ensures it is properly dry. If you don’t do this, moisture gets trapped and will damage the fabric of the sleeping bag while in storage. It will also cause the sleeping bag to smell and be unpleasant to sleep in.

-        Clean - While the bag is drying check it for signs of dirt. Any mud or spills can grow into mould or mildew while in storage, which again, can cause unpleasant odours.

-        Compression - Consider compression storage, ie. making bulky sleeping bags much smaller in an airtight bag. This is easier in terms of space for storage and transportation, but also removes air from the bag and reduces the chances of moisture affecting the bag’s condition.

-        Location - Make sure you choose a cool and dry location for storing your bag, such as an internal cupboard or wardrobe. Even if you use a protective storage bag for your sleeping bag, and there is a reduced chance of damp and mould or unpleasant smells when storing outside in a garage or shed, this is still not a recommended place to store something which needs to be dry, warm and comfortable to ensure a good nights’ sleep.

Thank you for the Cover. It has arrived and looks the part. We must now take it to France. I may send you a picture when it is fitted for your Archives as we found no similar cover in your displays and BBQs are not just chariot shape!!! In fact the table top or plancha BBQ are very popular in France and sold in large numbers without covers. Kindest regards.
